Why Best Friends are the Best

It's no secret that I haven't been having the best year. Things workwise haven't been going too well for me, I'm super far from my friends, and I'm stuck at home all the time.  Somehow, though, I'm not completely down and out. This is because I have some of the best friends in the world. They all understand that things kind of suck right now, but they never dwell on how much it does suck. That's not the only reason why they're the best, and that's why I'm here today. We need to talk about why best friends are actually the best.

1. They help you figure out your crap.
Don't know how to write a killer cover letter? They'll help you out with it. Need some good gossip about people you used to know? They've got you and their intense cat and apartment stories covered. Do you really just need somebody to talk you through the general crap and add jokes along the way? Don't worry. Best friends will help you out with everything and then a little more.Last week I was struggling with half-marathon training and Emily reminded me that with every passing day, I would wish that I started today. They never sugarcoat anything, because they know that's not for the best. Friends will help bring you into a better headspace and that's the best.

2. You can work toward goals with one another.
As mentioned before, I'm trying to run a half marathon, and guess what, so is Emily. It's fun to try to work through this together, even though we barely talk about it. At the end of the day, I still know that she's chugging along with me. Emily and I also tried writing a musical (that we should most definitely pick back up again) and a script (that she probably forgot about). Alvaro is the most encouraging person ever as I'm trying to work on the glampire and his eventual personal break room inside of the glampire. Then there's Chrissy. We're just working toward making it through. Working towards things in friendships is always the best. At the end of the day, you've not only accomplished something, but you've done it with somebody who knows just how important that thing you did was.

3. You celebrate the highs and work through the lows.
Piggybacking a little on the last point, best friends are the absolute best people to celebrate the best moments with. They have nothing but your best interests in mind and always happy when you make a breakthrough. The best part about having best friends is that they're there for you for those lows, too. They take the time to listen to your rambling mess of thoughts when you can't create a coherent thought. That's where best friends matter the most. They ensure that your low won't be a low for long. They know when to listen and when to give advice. They also know that you may not listen to their advice and won't hold it against you. Best friends are there for the extremes and everything in between.

As you can see, I'm all in on the friend game. I may have a small circle, but they are easily the best circle that a person could have. I've got them through everything, and I know that they have me. It's been hard since I moved from Orlando, but Plain White T's said it best when they said, "A thousand miles seems pretty far, but they've got planes, and trains, and cars, and FaceTime."

What do you think is the best thing about best friends? I'd love to hear it! I'll talk to y'all soon.
