A Very Vegetarian Lent

I know, I know. Lent started last Wednesday, so why am I finally sharing what I gave up now? Truthfully, it was because I was at home with my family, and I wasn't really paying attention to the date or had a chance to sit down and think about what I really wanted to give up. I'm not Catholic, but I love how Lent allows people to give up their vices and become pure again. It allows you to take forty days to become a better version of yourself. This is why I am giving up meat for the next forty days. I know it isn't in the exact time period as what the Church dictates, but I am not going to start late and then not complete what I have set out to do. I'm just a little behind.

Everybody I know who has given up meat for any decent amount of time says that it is one of the best decisions they have ever made. Overall, they feel better, healthier, more energetic. Isn't Lent all about letting go of toxic things and feeling better? I'm really, really excited for these next forty days too. This is going to force me to learn how to cook more than I normally would. It's also going to force me to just, well, eat well. Sometimes I get so off track when I start doing well in a diet, and you know what most of those meals are centered around? Meat. Fried Meat. Overindulging on different types of meat to attempt to satisfy my "hunger". I'm ready to kick that habit with doing this. I can only hope that my newly forming habits will stick with me.

The next forty days are going to be really tough, but there is nothing that I could be more excited for right now. I have a Pinterest board set up with recipes I want to try. I also have some support from my friends to help me out when things are getting tough for me. Let the next forty days show how strong I can be. Let them also show how amazing I can feel when I put good things into my body.

Let the vegetarian games begin!

Saturday Seven

1. I know I'm not the only who watched the Oscars. We all saw Ellen's pizza bit, and we absolutely loved it. One of my favorite parts was how it extended into her show the next day. Watch her give the delivery guy his tip.

2. Here is Nelson Mandela with the quote of the week: "May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears."

3. A baby is directing a church choir, and it just may be the cutest thing ever. The video isn't in English, but you really don't need your ears to see adorable.

4. We all know that we do weird things when nobody is looking. I can't even pretend that I don't do half of these.

5. Jimmy Fallon is completely rocking The Tonight Show so far. He recently had Idina Menzel sing Frozen's "Let it Go" with The Roots and classroom instruments. It was everything I have ever needed.

7. Thick hair might be the actual worse thing in the world, even BuzzFeed thinks so.
